How to Choose Your Signature Fragrance

JS Fragrance·

Why finding your signature scent matters

Your signature fragrance is the one people remember you by — the scent that triggers the moment someone walks into a room you just left. Choosing it shouldn't be guesswork. Here's the framework we walk every JS Fragrance customer through.

1. Understand the four scent families

Every fragrance falls into one (or a blend) of four main families:

  • Floral — rose, jasmine, peony, lily. Romantic, bright, traditionally feminine but increasingly unisex.
  • Oriental / Amber — vanilla, amber, oud, spices. Warm, sensual, perfect for evenings.
  • Woody — sandalwood, cedar, vetiver, patchouli. Grounded, sophisticated, wears well at the office.
  • Fresh — citrus, aquatic notes, green herbs. Clean, energizing, ideal for tropical climates like the Philippines.

2. Match the scent to your daily reality

A scent that smells incredible in a perfume shop can fall flat in real life. Ask yourself:

  • Is this for daily wear, special occasions, or the office?
  • Do I work in air-conditioning or under the Manila sun?
  • What do I want it to say about me — confidence, calm, mystery, joy?

3. Understand longevity and projection

Two terms every fragrance buyer should know:

  • Longevity — how long the scent lasts on your skin (typically 4-12+ hours).
  • Projection (sillage) — how far the scent travels off your body. Heavy projection commands a room; soft projection is intimate.

Eau de Parfum (EDP) lasts longer than Eau de Toilette (EDT). Every JS Fragrance bottle is EDP strength, with our JS Originals collection performing at Extrait level — 8-12+ hours of wear.

4. Test before you commit

Skin chemistry is real. The same fragrance can smell completely different on two people. Use our free Scent Finder quiz for a personalised shortlist, then sample with our Bundle Builder — three small sizes at 15% off so you can wear-test before buying full bottles.

5. Trust the 10-minute rule

Don't judge a fragrance in the first minute. The top notes — usually citrus or light herbs — fade in 15 minutes. Wait at least 10 minutes (ideally 30) before deciding. The heart and base notes are what you'll actually wear all day.

The shortcut: take the quiz

If all this feels overwhelming, that's exactly why we built the JS Fragrance Scent Finder. Five questions, three personalised recommendations, zero pressure. Most customers find a perfect match within their first try.
